Rishabh Pant’s poor run in a limited-overs format has attracted massive criticism. Pant has been one of the key members of the Indian squad across formats in recent times but the 25-year-old has not delivered enough performance in T20Is and ODIs that can prove his stability in the team.
Pant was brought into the Indian squad in the T20 World Cup during the last game of the league stage and he ended up playing two games including the semifinal. Choosing Pant over Dinesh Karthik in the last stage of the tournament forced fans and former cricketers to raise their eyebrows on team management after the wicket-keeper batter failed to perform there as well.
After the T20 World Cup, Pant was given a golden opportunity to open the innings for Team India during the T20I series vs New Zealand but in two innings he only delivered two poor performances.
Ex-India all-rounder slams Team management
Former Indian cricketer Reetinder Sodhi singled out Rishabh Pant’s mediocre run in the shortest format of the game and wants Sanju Samson to replace him.
“He is becoming a liability for Team India. If it’s like this, then bring in Sanju Samson. End of the day, you got to take that chance because you cannot afford to lose and exit in World Cup or ICC tournaments. When you give too many chances, problems arise. The time has come to provide opportunities to new guys,” Sodhi said.
“Only time will tell how many opportunities and how long he gets. Time is passing and he really has to tighten his shoes. Everything has a limit. You cannot depend on one player for so long. If he is not performing, you got to show him the exit door,” he added.
Samson has been in the cue for over seven to eight years now even after delivering well in domestic cricket.
