Hockey World Cup 2023: On Thursday, the Netherlands surpassed Australia’s mark for the most goals scored by a team in a single FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup game. At the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, the three-time champion Netherlands defeated Chile with a goal in the 48th minute to surpass Australia’s 12-0 victory over South Africa from the previous tournament. Ultimately, the Dutch team defeated their opponent 14-0 in the Hockey World Cup 2023 game.
Netherlands record sublime victory
In the sixth minute, Jip Janssen scored the first goal for the men in orange thanks to a penalty corner. Before Janssen got his second goal in the 29th minute, Derck de Vilder (22nd minute), Thijs Van Dam (23rd minute), and captain Thierry Brinkman each tallied one. By a score of 5-0, Netherlands was ahead of the South American team.
The Netherlands’ most productive period was the third, when it outscored Chile by six goals. Three minutes into the second half, Brinkman scored again. Janssen took another Penalty Corner to finish his hat-trick a minute later. Before Janssen increased his match total to four just before the end of the third quarter, Terrance Pieters (37th minute), Koen Bijen (40th minute), and Justen Blok (42nd minute) had already added their names to the score sheet with field goals.

As the fourth quarter got underway, Koen Bijen (45th minute) scored once again. Teun Beins’ successful conversion of a Penalty Corner in the 48th minute set a new record. Two minutes before the end of the game, captain Brinkman of the Netherlands scored from a penalty corner to complete his hat-trick for the team’s last and fourteenth goal.
