Australian Open 2023: HS Prannoy secured his spot in the final of the Australian Open Super 500 badminton tournament in Sydney by defeating his fellow Indian competitor, Priyanshu Rajawat, on Saturday. The all-Indian men’s singles semifinal clash witnessed Prannoy’s triumph with a score of 21-18, 21-12 in just 43 minutes.
Prannoy advances to Australian Open 2023 Final
Prannoy maintains a 2-0 lead over the world number 31, Rajawat, having previously defeated him at the Syed Modi International in 2022. Rajawat, the Orleans Masters champion, achieved his first-ever semifinal appearance in a Super 500 tournament by defeating his compatriot Kidambi Srikanth with a commanding scoreline of 21-13, 21-8 in the men’s singles quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, world number 9, Prannoy, engaged in a fierce battle against Indonesia’s world number 2, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, ultimately triumphing with a tenacious 16-21, 21-17, 21-14 victory in a grueling 73-minute contest. In Sunday’s summit clash, he is set to face China’s Weng Hongyang. The BWF World Tour event, featuring a total prize fund of US dollar 420,000 has gotten more exciting as Prannoy advances to the highly anticipated final.
PV Sindhu knocked out from Quarter-Finals
On Friday, Two-time Olympic medallist, PV Sindhu aimed to secure her fourth semifinal appearance of the season but faced a tough challenge against USA’s world number 12, Beiwen Zhang. Ultimately, Sindhu succumbed to a 12-21, 17-21 defeat in a 39-minute match.
