WWE: Finally it has happened. Gunther has been defeated on live television for the first time in more than 1000 days. And this feat was achieved by none other than Chad Gable himself. After all, an Olympian might be the perfect opponent for the ring general.
Chad Gable’s stint with Alpha Academy has been a pleasant surprise. The crowd is loving their gimmick with Otis and Maxine Dupri alongside Gable. This rise in popularity has finally done what fans have been demanding for years.
Gable is a genuine Olympian and fans have been frustrated by the lack of his involvement in the main roster. But it looks like that their wish will be fulfilled as Chad Gable defeated Gunther in the WWE Intercontinental Championship match, but he did not win the title yet.
Historic Defeat
After weeks of playing tug of war, Chad Gable finally got the shot at Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship title on Monday Night Raw. And amidst all the doubts, Gable came out victorious but did not win the title.
It was because of the fact that Gunther lost by a count out rather than a pin or submission. Because of the champions’ advantage, Gunther remained the Intercontinental champion despite getting defeated in front of a loud crowd.
But the fact that Gable defeated Gunther must mean something. Maybe there are plans for Gable to eventually dethrone Gunther and become the new Intercontinental champion. That would be a welcome change.
WWE Intercontinental Champion Record
Meanwhile, Gunther is just 18 days away from breaking the record of Honky Tonk man of most days as the reigning Intercontinental Champion. Many fans and experts have predicted that The Ring General will break that record.
So, once Gunther breaks the record, Chad Gable is right beside him to challenge him again as he has already defeated him now.
