US Open 2023: Novak Djokovic had a perfect start to the last Grand Slam of the year. After losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon 2023 finals, the Serbian made an amazing comeback and got his revenge at the Cincinnati Open finals.
Carlos will have his first-round match on Wednesday while Djokovic was brilliant in his first-round annihilation of Alexandre Muller. Both of these competitors are predicted to face each other in the finals again.
The real highlight of Djokovic’s US Open 2023 campaign came at the pre-tournament press conference in New York. The number 2 ranked stated that he is still motivated and wants to win as much as possible.
Grand Slams Are The Goals
Djokovic stated that he wants to win Grand Slams and that is his ultimate goal. He does not know how many more he will win but he will keep on going as he does not have an end in his mind at the moment.
On the other hand, he is also worried and knows about the limitations of his body at 36 years of age. He is trying to be more appreciative of what he has achieved and is treating every Grand Slam as his last in terms of commitment and performance.
But that does not mean that he has lost all the motivation. The Serbian stated that he is looking at every Grand Slam as a golden opportunity to make more history.
First Round Rout At US Open 2023
The second-seeded star proved true to his words when he annihilated 85th-ranked Alexandre Mueller in straight sets. The scorecard read 6-0,6-2,6-2 in favor of the Serbian.
If he succeeds in winning the US Open 2023, it will be his third Grand Slam this year out of four. But Djokovic’s record at Flushing Meadows is not so good. He has won it three times while reaching the finals 9 times. This is the first time he is playing in this tournament since 2021.
