Rinku Singh is being considered as the future of the Indian cricket team in white ball cricket. He might have been snubbed for the T20i World Cup but every Indian fan and selector holds him in high regard.
He averages more than 50 for India in T20i cricket and there is no scenario where he could be dropped from the Indian team. There are also talks of him getting chances in the ODI format.
But amidst those, a huge shocker came when he was not selected for the Duleep Trophy this year. Everyone knows that this time Duleep Trophy has huge stakes unlike ever before.
Every Indian player is participating in the tournament as selectors and Gautam Gambhir will keep an eye on the tournament. Moreover, BCCI has also changed the zonal format to more of a national format.
Rinku Singh Dropped!
So, it was a shocker when Rinku was not selected for the Duleep Trophy. The snub looks even worse when you consider that the left-handed batsman averages 54.70 in domestic cricket.
Rinku himself answered about the snub and he was brutal on himself. He stated that he did not perform well in Ranji last season which has resulted in him not getting selected.
He stated, “I didn’t perform that well (in the domestic season). I didn’t play as many matches in the Ranji Trophy, I played 2 to 3 matches. I wasn’t selected because I didn’t do well enough.”
‘Will Get My Chances!’
It is good to see that the left-handed batsman is not taking these rejections badly. Rather he is motivated and looking forward to the future. On being asked whether he has been seen as a T20 specialist, Rinku stated:
“No worries, I am happy with whatever chances I am getting. When I will be selected for ODIs or Tests, it will be a huge deal for me. Whatever I am getting to play right now, I am playing.”
