ICC Ban: The United Arab Emirates-based cricketer Mehar Chhayakar, who is of Indian origin, has been excluded from all forms of the game for 14 years allegedly due to violating the anti-corruption codes of the International Cricket Council and Cricket Canada. Chhayakar, who was convicted of having connections to the corruption cases involving UAE cricketers in 2019, was prohibited from taking part in the matches connected to the Zimbabwe vs. UAE series in April 2019 and the Global T20 Canada in 2019.
Mehar Chhayakar, was also found guilty by the ICC of refusing to work with the officials and obstructing the Anti-Corruption Unit’s efforts. In 2019, the ICC suspended four players for violating the anti-corruption code, including Chhayakar.
In March 2021, Mohammad Naveed, a former UAE captain, and Shaiman Anwar Butt, a batter, received eight-year suspensions. The following month, Qadeer Ahmed, another international cricketer, was charged with violating a five-year ban. In September 2021, a four-year ban for six code violations was also imposed on UAE wicketkeeper Gulam Shabbir.

Mehar Chhayakar was initially suspected of being involved with a tainted cricket tournament in Ajman in 2018 by ICC General Manager Alex Marshal, according to a statement issued by the organisation. “The charges for which he has now received a lengthy ban are further examples of his continuing efforts to corrupt and damage the reputation of our sport. With a ban of 14 years, the tribunal has sent a clear message to anyone intending to corrupt our game.”
The player has breached many code of conduct, thus, resulting in a ban of 14 years.
