ICC ODI Rankings: Star opener Shubman Gill is considered one of the best young players in the world. Within the last two months, he has achieved remarkable success by scoring a double century in ODIs and a century in the Test-T20 format. As a result, his ICC Ranking has skyrocketed. Meanwhile, India’s fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has suffered a setback after a subpar performance against Australia.
What is the new change in ICC ODI Rankings?
In early 2023, Shubman Gill played some really great cricket matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. In fact, he scored 2 centuries and 1 double century in his last 6 matches! Because of this, he got major points in the ICC rankings. Shubman Gill is only 23 years old and he is the only Indian player who is ranked among the top 5 best ODI batsmen in the world. He even did better than two other renowned Indian cricket players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are ranked 9th and 8th respectively.
In addition to that, fast bowler Mohammad Siraj in the ODI rankings. He was at the top of the list after doing very well against New Zealand, but now he has slipped down to third place. Josh Hazlewood from Australia is now in the number one spot again. This happened because Siraj didn’t do so well in the recent ODI series against Australia. He only got 3 wickets in the first match, and in the second match, India lost badly and he didn’t get any wickets while also giving away a lot of runs.
Kane Williamson shakes up test rankings
Talking about tests, former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is doing really well. He played two really important innings in the Test series against Sri Lanka, one of which was a century and the other was a double century. This helped him move up four places in the rankings and he’s now in second place. The number one spot in the rankings is held by Marnus Labuschagne. Rishabh Pant is the only Indian player in top-10, currently at ninth spot.
