ICC ODI World Cup 2023: The defending world champions are in dire need of some firepower after a disastrous start to their World Cup campaign. The 2019 champions have lost 2 out of their first three matches.

The loss against Afghanistan was like a wake-up call to the three Lions that they needed something else in the squad. And they got good news at the perfect time when it was announced that Jofra Archer will be returning to the squad.

The rapid pacer has been out of the English squad for more than a year now. The pacer was suffering from multiple injuries leading to the World Cup. But he was included in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 squad and will join the team soon.

Jofra Archer Back In the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Squad

According to various reports and sightings, Archer has joined the English camp and has started training as well. He was spotted sprinting ahead of the training session on Thursday.

There are still doubts regarding his match fitness and his getting rusty. After all, he played his last professional match all the way back in May. Another thing to note is that Archer is not part of England’s 15-man squad for the World Cup.

So, he won’t be able to participate in the competition right away. But considering that Reece Topley has injured himself, Archer might find a way back into the squad. And at this time, England needs his wicket-taking ability direly.

Do-Or-Die Match

Archer will be a significant upgrade to England’s current bowling lineup. He will provide the much-needed fireworks in the early stages of the match. The Three Lions are set to face South Africa in almost a do-or-die match on Saturday.

The Proteas have also suffered a huge upset at the hands of the Netherlands and will be looking to get back in form.
