ICC ODI World Cup 2023: The worst nightmare of the Indian team has come true as they finally got a verdict on Hardik Pandya and his injury. And it is not news that any Indian fan would have liked to hear.
The Indian all-rounder hurt his left ankle while bowling against Bangladesh in Pune last month. Initially, the injury was seen as a light one and everyone thought that he would recover in due time and would be part of the knockouts.
But, recent reports that have come out are suggesting that the all-rounder won’t be able to recover in time. He has been ruled out of the rest of the campaign and a replacement has also been announced by the Indian board.
Hardik Pandya Out Of ICC ODI World Cup 2023
Pandya has already missed league-stage matches against New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka since his injury. There are two more league matches before the knockouts commence. Everyone thought that this time window would be enough for his return.
Initially, the injury was termed as a heavy knock. But ahead of their clash against England, the Indian board found out that the injury suffered by Panyda was a minor ligament tear. The all-rounder has been in rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Replacement Announced
The Indian all-rounder has been replaced by the highly sought out medium pacer, Praidh Kirshna. Krishna has just 17 ODI match appearances for India and last played against Australia right before the World Cup. He dismissed David Warner in that match, so it was a good sign.
The Event Technical Committee has already approved the replacement player on Saturday. This means that Krishna will be part of the squad ahead of the South Africa clash. So far, the Indian team has replaced Pandya by bringing in Mohammad Shami and Surya Kumar Yadav. While Shami has been in deadly form, Surya also played an important innings against England.
