Pakistan is set to face arch-rivals India in a highly anticipated match on October 14 at Ahmedabad’s massive stadium, which can accommodate 132,000 spectators. Despite the long-standing political tensions between the two countries, cricket matches between India and Pakistan are a significant sporting event and attract immense attention.
Babar Azam and his team acknowledged the warm welcome they received from Indian fans upon their arrival in Hyderabad and during their warm-up match. However, they expressed the desire for support from their own fans in every match and stadium.
While many players in the T20 World Cup have experience playing on Indian pitches due to their participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pakistan players are prohibited from taking part in the IPL. Nevertheless, Babar Azam doesn’t consider this a disadvantage, noting that the conditions in India are similar to those in Pakistan and the rest of Asia. He mentioned that the smaller boundaries in India require adaptability from the players and emphasized the importance of their bowling strength, led by pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi, in their World Cup campaign.
The anticipation for the India-Pakistan match and the warm reception of the Pakistani team in India underscore the passionate following of cricket in the subcontinent and the excitement surrounding the T20 World Cup.
