Slim Chances in the Semi-final
The Men in Green had little chance of moving on to the next round as they took on England in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. Fans supported their team despite the odds in the hopes of a consolation victory that, regrettably, did not come through. England put on a dominant show, amassing a massive 337/9, thanks to half-centuries from Joe Root (60) and Jonny Bairstow (59). Ben Stokes was England’s standout performance, topping the rankings with 84 runs.
Babar Azam’s Captaincy Critique
Pakistan‘s reaction, however, was insufficient as they were dismissed for 244, ending their World Cup adventure with a defeat by a score of 93 runs. On the other side, defending champions England ended their difficult tournament run with a significant victory. As their team was humiliated, Pakistani supporters became more critical of Babar Azam’s captaincy, and conversations on the social networking platform ‘X’ focused on this topic.
Road to the Final
The first semi-final match between New Zealand and India is slated to take place at Wankhede Stadium on November 15th. Then, on November 16, South Africa and Australia will square off at the Eden Gardens in the second semifinal. On November 19, the winners of these matches will compete for honours at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
