ICC ODI World Cup 2023: The Pakistan cricket squad is yet to arrive in India as their visa have not been approved yet. As a result, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has cancelled their planned team-bonding trip to Dubai before the tournament.
Pakistan to play ICC World Cup 2023 warm-up match against Kiwis
Originally, Babar Azam‘s team had plans to leave for the UAE next week for a short stay, followed by their journey to Hyderabad for their inaugural warm-up match against New Zealand on September 29. The first warm-up match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Hyderabad will be held without spectators in attendance.
This decision was made due to concerns about insufficient security assurances from the police, especially considering that two major religious festivals are happening in the city on the same day. An undisclosed official has characterised the situation as “unsettling,” but there is a prevailing optimism that the visas will be issued before the deadline, as affirmed by senior officials.
Only Pakistan’s visa remaining
Pakistan submitted their visa applications over a week ago. Among the nine teams scheduled to journey to India for the World Cup, Pakistan stands as the sole team that is still awaiting final clearance for their visas. India will clash against Pakistan on October 14th at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
The PCB had previously suggested the idea of relocating Pakistan’s World Cup matches to a different country, with Bangladesh being a potential alternative. This proposal, which was initially discussed in early 2023, officially rejected in August when the Pakistani government approved the team’s travel to India for the tournament.
