ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Indian team injury woes are not stopping. Just when Shubman Gill got back in the squad after battling dengue and the team looked at full strength, Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury.
The incident happened during the India vs Bangladesh clash in the group stage when Pandya tried to stop the ball. He twisted his ankle in the process and had to walk out of the match limping.
The star all-rounder came back in the dugout later but did not bat as India won the match before his turn. While the injury was not looking serious, the latest update from BCCI and captain Rohit Sharma is showcasing some worrying signs.
Rushed For Tests
A BCCI official gave an update regarding Pandya’s injury. “He will be heading to Bengaluru where he has been asked to report to the NCA. The medical team assessed his ankle scan report and it looks like he will be fine by taking an injection. The BCCI consulted a specialist doctor in England and they too were of a similar opinion. He will be missing the next game.”
The all-rounder was rushed to the hospital for scans and joined the squad at the later stages. The physio also spent almost five minutes with the Vice-captain on the ground before stating that he wouldn’t be able to continue.
Not Out Of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Squad
Skipper Rohit Sharma stated in the post-match interview that there is nothing to worry about. “He (Hardik) pulled up a bit sore, nothing really major to worry about. We’ll see how he pulls up tomorrow morning and then plan on how to go forward.”
He was also present in the post-match medal ceremony of the Indian team and was in a jubilant mood. This indicates that he is fine at the moment and the injury is not that deep.
