However, on the eve of the game against Zimbabwe, Sachin Tendulkar received the devastating news of his father’s passing, compelling him to immediately return to India.
In the absence of their star batsman, India experienced yet another defeat and teetered on the edge of elimination from the tournament. However, Sachin Tendulkar made a courageous decision to return to England after attending his father’s funeral, ultimately delivering a match-winning performance for his team.
Taking to the pitch at the County Ground in Bristol, India found themselves at 92/2 after 20.5 overs. Sachin Tendulkar, amidst heartfelt cheers from the crowd who understood the emotional turmoil he was going through, bravely joined the fray. The right-handed maestro notched his first boundary with a trademark straight drive and proceeded to forge an unbroken partnership worth 237 runs alongside Rahul Dravid, who remained unbeaten with 104 runs off 109 balls.

India concluded their innings with an imposing total of 329/2 in their allotted 50 overs, with Tendulkar himself unbeaten on a sublime 140 from 101 balls, adorned with 16 fours and three sixes. In the subsequent innings, India efficiently contained Kenya to 235/7 in their 50 overs, securing a comfortable 94-run victory. Unsurprisingly, Sachin Tendulkar was named the player of the match for his exceptional performance.
