ICC T20 World Cup 2024: The ongoing T20 World Cup has attracted a lot of criticism for its USA phase. Almost every expert has criticized the pitches that are being used in the USA for this tournament.

All the criticisms are valid as there has not been a single game where the batsmen have looked comfortable. The South Africa Vs Sri Lanka match was a snoozefest that saw only 140 runs being made in 37 overs.

The India Vs Ireland match was also underwhelming as Ireland was bowled out by Indian bowlers on just 97. And while chasing this smaller target, even Indian batsmen were struggling a bit. Former Indian player Irfan Pathan came out and criticized the pitch and termed it as unsafe for batsmen.

Batsmen In Danger

The former Indian all-rounder stated “Look, we definitely want to promote cricket in America, but this pitch is not safe for players. If we had a pitch like this in India, a match would never be played there again for a very long time.”

He further stated “This pitch is definitely not good. I mean, we are talking about the World Cup here, not even a bilateral series.” He made this statement after the India Vs Ireland match which saw Indian skipper Rohit Sharma walking out after injuring his shoulder.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Criticism Amped Up

Former English skipper Micheal Vaughan posted on his ‘X’ profile about how sub-par the pitches have been. He likes the idea of promoting the game in the States but does not agree with the arrangements.

Former England coach Andy Flower stated “I’ve got to say that is not a good surface to play an international match on. It is bordering on dangerous. You see the ball bouncing on a length both ways so skidding low occasion but in the main bouncing unusually high and striking people on thumb, gloves, and helmet and making life very very difficult for any batsman.”

Even Yuvraj Singh sighed when Ravi Shastri asked him about the pitch on the commentary panel. It is clear that it has been an underwhelming tournament and the pitches have to improve massively in the future if ICC wants to promote cricket in nations like the USA.
