ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Fazalhaq Farooqui created history when he took 5 wickets as Afghanistan thrashed Uganda by 125 runs in their opening ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match.
The left-arm pacer was sensational as he unlocked a fifer to set a thumping victory for his nation. After some underwhelming matches in the tournament, we finally got a match that had action.
This victory has set Afghanistan to a flying start and has made it a strong contender for the title as well. They will be seen as the team to beat and can match the class of biggest opponents.
Sensational Batting
While batting first, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave Afghanistan a flying start. Both openers touched the 70-run mark and scored with a healthy strike rate. Especially Gurbaz, who scored 76 runs with a strike rate of 169.
The middle and lower order collapsed after that but the opening partnership was enough to set a commendable target of 184 runs for Uganda. In reply, Uganda was speechless against Farooqui who cleaned them up on 58 runs.
Only two of Uganda’s batsmen were able to touch the double-figure score. Naveen-ul-Haq and Rashid Khan also took two wickets each.
