Pakistan finally opened their account in ICC T20 World Cup 2024 tournament in the third time of asking. It might be a little too late considering how Pakistan finished the match Canada.
Pakistan needed a victory against Canada to remain in the tournament but they also needed to finish it quickly to improve their Net Run Rate. But by their efforts, it looked like they were not even trying.
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan played run-a-ball knocks to secure a victory of Pakistan in the 18th over. They were supposed to finish the match in the 14th over to equal the NRR of the USA.
It was shocking how Pakistani batsmen were not even in a slight bit of hurry. The Pakistani skipper explained his and his team’s slow appraoch even while needing to win quickly.
Blames The Pitch
Babar Azam stated that they wanted to chase the target in 14 over, but the pitch made it difficult. He was also pleased by the performances of the bowlers but was left frustrated by his own performance.
He stated “Good for us, we need this win. We started well with the bowling, in the first six overs we know we had to be up to the mark. It was in our mind (to get over USA’s net run rate), to win before 14 overs but the pitch made it difficult.”
Babar was once again out on the slips just like he was against Jasprit Bumrah. He was left frustrated after the dismissal. “Because I got out with the same shot twice (against India)! This is my shot but sometimes you need success. I’ll try my best,” he stated.
ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan Drought Ends
Pakistan finally opened their account in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with a victory against Canada. The victory was hard fought with Mohammad Rizwan scoring a half-century.
But this victory might have closed their gates for Super 8 qualification as they haev very bad NRR as compared to the USA. Pakistan not only need to win their next match by a huge margin but also hope that either India or United States lose their next two matches by huge margin.
