Former Indian player Sunil Gavaskar defended Rohit Sharma and slammed Star Sports over showing Indian skipper's weakness.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was on fire against Australia. He played a blistering knock of 92 runs in just 41 deliveries that helped India set up a massive total.

He was the only reason that the Men In Blues were able to cross the 200-run mark in that Super 8 match. While Hitman was in impeccable form and annihilated every Aussie bowler, he once again got out to a left-arm pacer.

While it did not matter at that point, it was once again a glaring fault in the Indian skipper’s arsenal. Rohit has got out against a left-arm seamer thrice in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and one time by a left-arm spinner. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that it is his biggest weakness right now.

‘Not A Problem’

Bur former Indian player Sunil Gavaskar is of a different mind. He stated that Rohit getting out against left-arm seamers is not a problem. Not only that, he was furious over Star Sports repeatedly showing Hitman’s weakness.

He stated “Thinking about Rohit Sharma once again, he got out to a left-hander (left-arm seamer). So before the next match, are we going to do another segment about his weakness to left-handers?”

Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch stated that there are many left-arm pacers right now who can swing the ball. So the weakness is more glaring and needs to be sorted out.

But the Indian legend once against shrugged the criticism and stated that if a player is aggressive, there are chances that he will get out. So there is nothing to worry about when it comes to Rohit Sharma and left-arm pacers.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Biased Commentary?

There is no doubt that Gavaskar is a huge admirer of Rohit and his brand of cricket. So much so, that there might be slight bias towards it. Gavaskar has come under attack on social media for his different analysis of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

“Commentators create a divide between players and the fans,” one user had tweeted, after Gavaskar criticized Kohli’s shot selection against Bangladesh, whilst calling Rohit’s approach a selfless one.
