ICC T20 World Cup 2024: These past few months have been tough for Nepal’s star player Sandeep Lamichhane. The former Nepal skipper was suspended from cricket after being accused in a rape case and was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
But as the higher court declared him innocent right before the T20 World Cup, it gave him hope that he would be able to participate in the tournament. The fans of the Nepal cricket team were also happy with the decision.
But the troubles only increased from here as his VISA application has been rejected for the second time by the US embassy in Nepal. This has resulted in a protest in Nepal by the fans of cricket and the team.
Protest In Nepal
Lamichhane was recently acquitted of rape charges by the Patan High Court and was expected to be part of the T20 World Cup. But for the second time, his VISA application has been denied and it has made his participation in the tournament unlikely.
It has led to people protesting in Nepal as they are urging authorities to intervene and ensure that the talented cricketer receives the necessary visa to represent Nepal on the global stage.
Fans think that Sandeep is essential for Nepal’s World Cup journey. Meanwhile, Sandeep has been training constantly waiting for his VISA approval, and is coordinating with the Foreign Ministry constantly.
Nepal will begin their campaign in Group D. Their first match will be against the Netherlands on June 4. Sandeep was an integral part of the squad and would be a strong boost to the team.
