ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Surya Kumar Yadav has been on the top of the T20i batsman chart for 2 years now. For 2 years, he ruled the shortest format of the game and kept his number 1 ranking.
But for the first time in two years, he has been dethroned. And the usurper is none other than the biggest heartbreaker of Indian cricket. Travis Head had a wonderful tournament so far and has skyrocketed to number 1 ranking.
Even though India defeated Australia, Head almost got the Aussies back in the game. A blistering 76 runs knock kept the Men In Blues on their toes. On the other hand, Surya started brilliantly but failed to convert it into a big total.
The New Number 1
Head played in the T20 World Cup brilliantly and scored 242 runs with an average of 42 and a strike rate of 158. He has the highest strike rate amongst the batsmen who have scored more than 200 runs in this tournament.
His innings particularly against England and India were sensational and helped him jump 6 rankings in the span of this tournament. Surya is at second followed by Phil Salt, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan respectively.
Surya will have the chance to reclaim his top spot as he still has at least one match remaining. On the other hand, Salt can also claim the number 1 spot if he manages a brilliant inning in his matches.
ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Jasprit Bumrah Jump
Adil Rashid still holds the number 1 ranking in the bowling department. Axar Patel has jumped one position and is now on 8th while Kuldeep Yadav has jumped 20 spots and is on 11th now.
But the biggest jump is surely of Jasprit Bumrah who has jumped 44 spots and has entered the Top 25 rankings with his sensational bowling in the tournament.
