ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Everyone knows about the criticisms that Virat Kohli is getting for his low strike rate in IPL 2024. Every expert, pundit, and fan is calling out Kohli for that and few are even questioning his World Cup selection.
The criticism got so absurd that Kohli’s former teammate AB De Villiers had to jump in his defense and answer all the critics. Kohli himself answered everyone when he scored a brilliant half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
On Thursday, in the T20 World Cup squad press conference, the reporters asked the same question to Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma. The Indian skipper and Chief selector jumped right into the defense of the Indian batsman and stated he was far too important for the team.
ICC T20 World Cup 2024: ‘We Don’t Care About His Strike Rate!’
Ajit Agarkar said “We have not even discussing about Virat Kohli and his strike rate. He is a great player and we know his value in the team. There hasn’t been any talk with the Strike Rate of Kohli (big smiles) – he has been doing so well in the IPL”.
The Indian skipper agreed with the statement and said that 70-80% of the group was selected even before the IPL got started. Kohli was in that group and there was no way he would be dropped as he bagged that experience.
They further stated that the experience Kohli has is invaluable and will benefit the team in every way of the tournament.
The Ro-Ko Bond
When the reporter asked the question about Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper started smiling. Many fans are comparing it to the reaction that Kohli gave during the World Cup in 2021 when reporters asked Kohli about Rohit Sharma form.
This bond that both these two players share is not something fragile. They have been brothers for far too long and know each other importance to the squad.
