ICC Test Rankings: Ravichandran Ashwin has climbed up to the top position in the latest ICC Test bowling rankings, surpassing James Anderson. Ashwin’s outstanding performance in India’s second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test victory over Australia at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, where he took six wickets, helped him achieve the top spot.
Ashwin replaces Anderson in rankings
With England’s shocking loss to New Zealand in the Wellington Test, Anderson fell to second position. In the first innings of the Delhi Test, Ashwin secured significant wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith before taking out Alex Carey. Ravichandran Ashwin showed off his abilities in the second innings by removing three of Australia’s top five hitters. By batting through the whole Australian batting order from the opposite end, his spin partner Ravindra Jadeja also made a positive contribution.
In a span of just three weeks, the top spot of the ICC Test bowling rankings has witnessed its third change, with Ravichandran Ashwin replacing James Anderson as the new No. 1 bowler. Anderson had earlier displaced Pat Cummins from the top spot after his outstanding performance in the first Test against New Zealand, where he became the first 40-year-old to attain the No. 1 ranking.

However, Anderson’s form dipped in the Wellington Test where he managed to take just three wickets, and was subsequently replaced by Ashwin in the rankings.
