ICC: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken action against Australia and England for their slow over-rate in the ENG vs AUS Ashes 2023 series. As a penalty, the ICC has deducted crucial ICC World Test Championship points from both teams’ overall tally. Additionally, both England and Australia were fined five percent of their match fees and were penalized with one WTC point for each over that fell short of the required rate.

Following the thrilling and closely-contested series, which concluded in a 2-2 draw, Australia faced a deduction of 10 WTC points for their slow over-rate in the fourth Ashes Test held at Old Trafford, Manchester. Meanwhile, England suffered a total loss of 19 points for maintaining a slow over-rate in four out of the five matches played during the series.
In the fifth Ashes 2023 Test, England secured a victory with a close margin of 49 runs. However, despite England’s win, Australia managed to retain the Ashes for the fourth consecutive time. The five-match series concluded with a scoreline of 2-2.
According to the ICC, the English cricket team was found to be behind in terms of overs bowled in the first, second, fourth, and fifth Ashes 2023 Test matches, falling short by two, nine, three, and five overs, respectively. Conversely, Australia faced a penalty of 50 percent of their match fees for being ten overs short in the fourth match held in Manchester. In Test Cricket, 90 overs are to be bowled in a single day.

The English cricket team faced fines of ten percent for the first Test, 45 percent for the second Test, 15 percent for the fourth Test, and 25 percent of their match fees for their slow over-rate in the Ashes 2023 series. In addition, England received a deduction of two WTC points, as per the updated regulations introduced after the commencement of the new cycle of the World Test Championship. This fine replaces the previously announced punishment.
