Once again, Hardik Pandya emerged as India’s key wicket-taker, this time by removing Azmatullah Omarzai in the 35th over, breaking the pivotal 121-run fourth-wicket partnership. Omarzai’s 62-run innings in 69 balls was halted as Hardik dismantled his stumps, sparking a passionate and animated celebration from the Indian vice-captain. This display of emotion highlighted the importance of the wicket, particularly after India faced difficulties in containing the run flow.
Hardik Pandya’s successful dismissal of Azmatullah Omarzai marked his second wicket of the day, previously taking the important wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Afghanistan, winning the toss, opted to bat first, with Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur also contributing a wicket each to the Indian bowling attack. Afghanistan entered the match following a loss to Bangladesh, while India carried confidence from their victory over the five-time champion Australia.
