IND vs AFG: In their second game of the ODI World Cup 2023, India faced off against Afghanistan. Despite losing the toss, the team led by Rohit Sharma was asked to field first. The Indian bowlers made an impressive start with Jasprit Bumrah taking the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran, followed by an outstanding catch by Shardul Thakur to dismiss Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
Shardul Thakur takes a stunner
On his birthday, Rohit Sharma brought in Hardik Pandya to bowl the 13th over of the innings. Initially conceding five runs in the first three deliveries, Hardik then delivered a perfect short and quick ball. Rahmanullah Gurbaz attempted to clear the boundary but little did anyone anticipate what would transpire next.
Shardul Thakur, positioned near the boundary at deep backward square leg, executed an incredible catch. The Indian all-rounder initially completed the catch on his first attempt but, as a precautionary measure, released the ball back into the air before stepping onto the field and securing the catch on the second attempt.
Shardul’s outstanding fielding effort sent both Afghan openers back to the pavilion with scores of 22 and 21. Following this, Shardul proceeded to dismiss Rahmat Shah in the next over, and Rahmat chose to use the DRS review.
