IND vs AFG T20 World Cup 2024: Kuldeep Yadav has been on a roll for the past few years. After getting ousted from the Indian team, he made his triumphant return to the squad and everyone thought he would be a sure starter in the T20 World Cup.
But shockingly, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid decided to bench Kuldeep for the group stages of the tournament. It was understandable because the Nassau County pitch was supporting pacers much more than the spinners.
But now that the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has shifted to the Carribean, the spinners will play a huge part. ICT head coach, Rahul Dravid stated the same and we might see a replacement in Playing 11 against Afghanistan.
Time For Kuldeep?
While answering the questions, Dravid stated that it was hard to leave out both Kuldeep and Yuzvendra Chahal. The decision was made because of the conditions and what was required in that particular venue. For Dravid, it is always about the right combination rather than individuals.
Dravid further stated “We wanted to ensure that we had the depth on those tricky kind of tickets. So that’s what we went there with. You know, it might be different here. Without giving too much away, certainly. You know, it might be slightly different here.
You might need an extra spinner and then someone like Kuldeep or Yuzi can come into play. They become a very good factor for us, said Dravid ahead of the Afghanistan fixture.”
IND vs AFG T20 World Cup 2024: Super 8 Starts
India will start their Super 8 campaign against Afghanistan in Barbados. While the Head Coach has stated that we might see an extra spinner, it will be weird to change the winning combination as well.
Rohit Sharma is also known for avoiding wrist spinners in ICC tournaments. So, it will be interesting to see the lineup that India goes with.
