IND vs AUS: During the ongoing 2nd Test match between India and Australia, Virat Kohli was controversially dismissed in a decision that left the cricket world in disarray. Despite Matthew Kuhnemann posing a serious threat to India, he failed to take any wickets before eventually getting the Indian skipper, who was playing exceptionally well and had set himself up for a monumental score against the Aussies. However, a controversial LBW decision resulted in Kohli having to leave the field after scoring a crucial 44 runs.
Controversy erupts on Virat Kohli dismissal
The Australian team had appealed for an LBW, and the on-field umpire Nitin Menon had given Kohli out. Kohli was convinced that he had made contact with the bat and immediately opted for the DRS. The third umpire took an agonizingly long time to determine whether the ball had hit the bat or the pad first, and after much deliberation, it was concluded that the pad had made contact with the ball before the bat. This decision was widely debated since the edge was evidently visible.
The LBW decision by the umpire led to Kohli’s dismissal, and he was forced to leave the field. Kohli tried to defend the ball, but it appeared to hit both the bat and pad simultaneously. Nitin Menon gave Kohli out, but he immediately challenged the decision.

The replays showed that the ball had hit the bat and pad together, but the third umpire Richard Illingworth believed that the ball had hit the pad first. Kohli expressed his disappointment with the umpire’s decision in the dressing room, and the crowd at Delhi Stadium was filled with boos, expressing their disapproval of the umpiring decision. Netizens too took to social media and slammed on-field umpire Nitin Menon for wrong decision.
