IND vs AFG: In the 9th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, held at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, October 11, India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah made an early breakthrough. After winning the toss and opting to bat, Afghanistan’s opening batsmen, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, had a promising start in the game. While they showed caution against Bumrah’s bowling, they took Mohammed Siraj to task with aggressive batting. However, it was Bumrah’s celebration which has now gone viral.
Jasprit Bumrah’s new celebration style
Afghanistan were off to a fair start in the match. However, the 32-run partnership between the opening batsmen came to an end in the seventh over when India’s top pacer, Bumrah, took a crucial wicket. Bumrah delivered a back-of-a-length ball at around 135 km/h, targeting the off-stump area, and it displayed a slight away movement.
Ibrahim Zadran’s attempt to defend the delivery resulted in an outside edge, heading towards wicket-keeper KL Rahul, who executed a fine catch behind the stumps. What garnered significant attention was Jasprit Bumrah’s celebratory gesture after securing the initial wicket of the game.
In his celebration, Bumrah pointed to his temple, mimicking the distinctive celebration style of Marcus Rashford, the English professional footballer known for playing as a forward for the Premier League club Manchester United and the England national team. Following the dismissal, Afghanistan‘s opener Ibrahim Zadran departed after contributing 22 runs from 28 balls, including 4 boundaries.
