IND vs AUS: While Mohammad Shami was on fire in the first ODI and restricted Australia to a below-par score, Indian fielders did not help at all. Indian team is supposed to be one of the best fielding sides in the world.
But what we saw in the first ODI was nothing less than shambolic. Misfields all over the field dropped catches, missed run-outs, and whatnot. It was a frustrating site for both the bowlers and fans.
The Men In Blues could have stopped the Aussies on 20 fewer runs if their fielding department had been attentive. This shambolic fielding performance might even affect the Indian team in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Dropped A Sitter
The first shambolic fielding site we saw was when Shreyas Iyer dropped David Warner in the ninth over. Australia was in the rebuilding phase at the moment and India had the golden opportunity to hit them harder.
On the last ball of the over, the ball went straight to Shreyas Iyer, who was in the right position to make the catch. However, Iyer dropped the catch. Warner was 14 at that time and he went on ahead to score a brilliant half-century.
IND vs AUS: Captain Fumbles A Run-Out
Another major fumble came in the later stages of the match when KL Rahul missed a very easy opportunity to run Marnus Labushagne out. The instance happened in the 23rd over while Ravindra Jadeja was bowling.
Suryakumar Yadav picked up and threw the ball quickly toward Rahul while Marnus was halfway down the pitch. It was an easy out but the skipper failed to pick up the ball. After that, we saw many misfields on the fields. There were enough misfields that the broadcasters even made a compilation out of it.
