IND vs AUS: India’s star off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, claimed two wickets in an over to derail Australia’s first innings in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, the latter out for a duck, fell in the space of three deliveries to the veteran spinner.
Ashwin gets two in three balls
After a poor batting performance in the first Test, the visitors made a steady start despite David Warner’s early wicket. Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne were building a promising partnership before Ashwin spun the session on its head. Labuschagne was Ashwin’s 700th First Class wicket as he was dismissed by an exceptional delivery that drifted before spinning. Steve Smith followed shortly after, caught behind by Srikar Bharat for a duck.
The two quick dismissals on a challenging pitch put the Australians under pressure. Usman Khawaja survived a close LBW call and went on to score his 20th Test half-century. He will be crucial for Australia alongside Travis Head, who was controversially left out of the previous Test.

Ashwin, who has looked dangerous with the ball, will be keen to restrict the Australians to a low score in the first innings. Labuschagne’s wicket was also Ashwin’s 700th First-Class wicket. Steven Smith’s two ball duck has once again showed the kind of significance Ashwin bestows on spinning tracks especially against Aussies.
