IND vs AUS: Ravindra Jadeja left Australia’s middle order reeling with his bowling in Chepauk during India’s ICC World Cup 2023 match opener. He first dismissed well-set Steve Smith in the 28th over and then took Labuschagne and Alex Carey’s wicket in the 30th over. By the end of his over, Australia’s score read 119/5 in 30 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja turns the tide
On the first ball of the 27th over, Ravindra Jadeja delivered a remarkable ball that bowled Steve Smith, leaving the batsman in disbelief after he had been performing well. Smith, who had been playing very cautiously, was taken aback by the sharp turn Jadeja’s delivery took. Smith managed to score 46 runs off 71 balls with 5 fours. The bails swiftly dislodged as the ball ripped in between Smith’s bat and body.
Again, when Jadeja came in the 30th over, he delivered a full-length ball on the second ball. The batter, Labuschagne, misunderstood the length and edged it, which, ultimately was caught by wicketkeeper KL Rahul. Marnus took the review but he was adjourned out. Then, again on the fourth ball, he dismissed the new batter Alex Carey for a duck by LBW dismissal.
Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Mitchell Marsh without him scoring any runs, while Kuldeep Yadav secured David Warner’s wicket after the veteran had accumulated 41 runs off 52 balls with 6 fours. Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first, considering the dry wicket conditions.
