IND vs AUS: In a momentous occasion during the second Test match between India and Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon etched his name in the history books on Saturday by picking up a remarkable five-wicket haul against India. As India was chasing Australia’s first innings total of 263 runs, Lyon’s mastery with the ball left India’s top-order batsmen helpless.
First Australian to take 100 wickets in BGT
In the process, Lyon became only the third bowler in the world to take 100 wickets against India in Test cricket, a significant milestone for any bowler. Lyon’s achievement also makes him the third bowler, and the first Australian, to pick up 100 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His impressive five-wicket haul in the 24th Border-Gavaskar Trophy game included the dismissals of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, and KS Bharat.
The next Australian bowler on the list of most wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is Brett Lee, who is eighth with 53 wickets in 12 matches.
Nathan Lyon’s feat joins him in an elite club of bowlers who have picked up a century of wickets against India. The highest wicket-taker against India in Test cricket is England’s James Anderson, who has claimed 139 wickets. Sri Lanka’s M Muralitharan occupies the second spot on the list with 105 wickets.

Ravichandran Ashwin also entered the prestigious club by picking up his 100th wicket in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during the first day of the second Test, in his 20th match. However, Anil Kumble still holds the record of being the leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having picked up 111 wickets in 20 matches at an impressive average of 30.32. With Lyon’s recent success and consistent performances, he has undoubtedly become one of the most respected and feared spinners in the world of cricket.
