IND vs AUS: On Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Virat Kohli hit his first Test half-century since January 2022. On Saturday, Kohli made an unbeaten 59 after Shubman Gill hit his second Test century to help India reach 289/3 at stumps against Australia. Kohli, on the other hand, had a tense start to his innings, getting off the mark on the 12th delivery, with Nathan Lyon putting relentless pressure on him from one end.
Kohli and Lyon put aside differences to share a laugh
Kohli and Lyon have had numerous on-field fights over the years. While the Australian spinner made Kohli’s life difficult in the first three games, the former India captain effectively nullified Lyon on Day 3. On the 81st over of India’s innings, Kohli and Lyon had a humorous encounter. When Kohli came down the pitch from the non-end, striker’s Lyon turned towards him and appeared to say something in his face. Nonetheless, when chatting to each other, they both laughed. The stump mic captured the dialogue.
Even fierce rivals can have friendly moments on the cricket pitch
On Day 3, Gill stood out with his 128 (his second Test tonne) as he produced vital partnerships, notably a 113-run second-wicket stand with Cheteshwar Pujara, who made 42. The 23-year-old Gill, who took over for a struggling KL Rahul in the third Test, smashed 12 fours and one massive six in a strong batting display to break his previous Test best of 110. In the final session, he was LBW to Lyon’s off spin before Kohli took charge with the left-handed Ravindra Jadeja, on 16, to round out the day’s play.
