IND vs AUS: The third and final match of the ODI series between India and Australia is currently underway in Chennai. Though, the fate of the match hangs in balance as of writing this, but there is one unwanted record now credited on Suryakumar Yadav’s name. The star batter for India was dismissed on golden duck today, making him the first Indian batter to have three consecutive ‘golden’ ducks.
Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed for three ducks in 1994 but he was out on second delivery, thus making Surya’s record unwanted yet unique. Many batters have been dismissed on ducks for three times, but not on golden ducks. Overall, he is the 14th batter to have experienced three ducks in a row.
Suryakumar Yadav unwanted record
Steve Smith earlier won the toss and opted to bat first. Indian bowlers did a great job in restricting the side to 269 runs. However, regular fall of wickets from Indian side, also ensured that Kangaroos are always up in the game as well. A big knock was expected from star batter Suryakumar Yadav today, who was earlier dismissed on the last two matches on the first-ball duck.
However, much to everyone’s surprise, the same incident took place today as one more Aussie bowler took two wickets in two balls. On the 36th over, Ashton Agar first dismissed Virat Kohli (54 off 72) as he was caught out by David Warner. Surya then entered the crease as Men in Blue were looking for a strong partnership but on the first ball itself, he was bowled out by the bowler, making this as his third consecutive duck in the series.
Suryakumar, who has been the top and highest-scoring batter for India in T20 format last year appeared completely shattered and upset. This is also to be noted that Surya came down the batting order today instead of his usual number 4. He even stood there on the crease in shock as he was unable to believe that he now holds an embarrassing record. In the first two matches, he was dismissed by Mitchell Starc.
