IND vs AUS WTC Final 2023: In a significant setback for India, both Virat Kohli (49) and Ravindra Jadeja (0) faced a double blow during the morning session of the final day in the World Test Championship at the Oval. Scott Boland played a pivotal role in their dismissals, with Kohli edging the ball and Steve Smith showcasing exceptional skills by taking a remarkable catch in the slips. In a subsequent delivery, Scott Boland once again managed to take an outside edge, this time from Ravindra Jadeja. The ball carried to wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who made no mistake in taking the catch. As a result of these consecutive dismissals, India, resuming at an overnight score of 164 for three, found themselves at 179 for five, facing a challenging situation.
Boland gives two setbacks in three balls
Virat Kohli faced a crucial delivery from Boland, aiming for a forceful drive. However, his execution proved insufficient as the ball made contact with the outer edge of his bat. The ball swiftly flew towards the right of the second slip, where Steve Smith displayed remarkable fielding prowess. Reacting with agility and precision, Smith lunged to his right, stretching his body to the fullest extent, and secured the ball with both hands. It was an extraordinary catch that highlighted Smith’s athleticism and lightning-quick reflexes, leaving Kohli visibly disheartened.
After Virat Kohli’s departure, India’s hopes of salvaging the Test match continued to diminish as Ravindra Jadeja arrived at the crease. Scott Boland, maintaining his impressive spell, tactfully directed the ball towards the left-hander, creating deceptive late movement. Jadeja, tempted by the delivery, succumbed to the drive but could only manage to edge the ball directly into the awaiting hands of wicketkeeper Alex Carey. This dismissal showcased Boland’s skill and his ability to exploit the prevailing conditions, leaving India in a state of turmoil with the loss of their fifth wicket.
With Kohli and Jadeja both dismissed and back in the pavilion, India found themselves in a tough situation, having already lost half of their batting lineup.
