IND vs BAN: Cheteshwar Pujara, the star batsman for Team India, finally scored his 19th Test century on Friday, ending a 1443-day wait. He did so in the second innings of the first Test against Bangladesh. Pujara took 130 balls to reach his century. In the longest format of the game, this is also the batter’s fastest century. After Pujara’s century, India quickly declared their innings, giving Bangladesh in Chattogram a 513-run target to win.
Virat Kohli’s reaction wins up the internet
In the year after he was benched from the team in February, just before the team’s home series against Sri Lanka, Pujara has struggled in international cricket. However, the 34-year-old right-handed batsman put in a lot of effort during the County Championships in England and delivered reliable performances for Surrey, earning the Indian team a second call-up for the fifth Test, which was postponed for Edgbaston.
Virat Kohli, who was Pujara’s batting partner at the moment, also raised his arms in happiness as he congratulated Pujara, who then burst into joyful celebrations at reaching his century.
Alongside Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, Pujara had stabilised the Indian innings in the first innings after a shaky beginning in which India had lost their first three wickets inside the first 20 overs. Pujara had also scored a crucial 90 in that innings.
