Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Monumental Innings
After then, the hosts completely took over the game as India established a 557-run goal thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s second consecutive double century. Following his third Test century, the left-hander had to retire injured during the night.
At the fall of the third wicket, he came back to bat and thoroughly destroyed the English attack to achieve his double hundred. With India declaring at 430 for four, Jaiswal tied Wasim Akram’s record for the most sixes in an innings (12) while remaining undefeated at 214.
Historic Victory Margin
Ravindra Jadeja claimed his 13th Test five-wicket haul (5/21) as England collapsed in the pursuit. In the end, England crumbled for 122 runs, their greatest loss against India. India’s victory surpassed their previous record of a 372-run victory over New Zealand in Mumbai in 2021 to become their greatest-ever victory by a margin of runs in Test cricket.
In 2018, India defeated the West Indies by an innings and 272 runs at the same stadium, which coincidentally marked their greatest Test victory by innings. In addition, the loss was the Three Lions’ second-heaviest in Test history, after only a 1934 562-run loss to Australia at the Oval.
