IND Vs IRE T20 World Cup: Finally, after a week that felt like a year, the Indian team will begin their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland on Wednesday. There are lots of uncertainty or should be say surprises waiting for us in the Indian team.
No one has been able to predict the playing XI of the Indian team ahead of this match. There have been lots of speculations regarding various things and the combination that the Indian team might try.
One such question will be the opening partnership and the place of Yashaswi Jaiswal in the team. It looks like Rohit and Rahul Dravid might opt to play Kohli at opening instead of Jaiswal, but what does it mean for the entire team?
Jaiswal Out, Kohli In?
The easiest solution will be to bench Yashaswi Jaiswal, but the Indian team might miss his blistering starts. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are more than capable of giving the team a quick start but they are not as quick as Jaiswal.
Benching Jaiswal will also mean that Rishabh Pant will be promoted to 3rd position, and that is best for him. He is an upper-order batsman and showed his skills in the warm-up game against Bangladesh.
Four All Rounders
There is also a huge possibility that India might play all four all-rounders. The Indian skipper is fond of all-rounders and wants that depth in the team.
But if Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube play, India has to rest one between Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh. We think Arshdeep might get a preference because of his swing and left-arm angle.
Pitch Report
It would also be wise to play Axar in the squad because of the slow pitch in Nassau County Stadium in New York. We have seen how the slow pitches can aid the spinners and when you have four top spinners in the squad, you might want to play at least three of them here.
As Rohit Sharma stated, don’t expect a mountain of scores like IPL 2024 here. A 160-180 run target will be more than enough and will give us a very good match.
