IND vs NEP Asia Cup 2023: Nepal faced early batting challenges at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium against India, similar to their match against Pakistan. However, India’s poor fielding, particularly of Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli, provided Nepal’s batsmen with a lifeline, leaving Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj frustrated.
Fielders drop absolute sitters
In the first over, the first chance came when Kushal Bhurtel faced the last ball. He attempted a powerful shot at a short and wide delivery from Shami but managed only a thick outside edge. The ball headed towards the first slip where Shreyas Iyer was positioned. However, Iyer, who should have easily taken the catch, reacted too slowly and ended up mishandling it.
On the very next delivery, Aasif Sheikh drove the ball in the air off Siraj. Virat Kohli, stationed at short cover, tried to adjust to make the catch easier but struggled with it, allowing the ball to hit the ground after a couple of fumbles, much to his frustration. To increase the fielding woes, Ishan Kishan contributed another dropped catch while keeping wickets in the fifth over. This led to criticism from Twitter users regarding India’s level of preparedness in the fielding department.
