IND vs NZ

IND vs NZ: When Rohit Sharma’s Team India took on New Zealand in the first One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Shubman Gill’s double-hundred was not the only topic of conversation in the cricket community. Though, major highlight of the match was his daddy hundred but Hardik Pandya’s controversial dismissal too has hogged up the limelight.

Hardik Pandya’s controversial dismissal

When facing Daryl Mitchell in the 40th over of the Indian innings, Pandya was pressed for space and unable to block the middle-order batsman’s attempt to cut the ball, which fell into Tom Latham’s gloves. Given that keeper Tom Latham’s gloves were so near to the stumps, there was a lot of confusion.

The third umpire had to determine whether the Indian batsman had actually been bowled or if the bails had been thrown off by the keeper’s gloves. The New Zealand wicketkeeper made an appeal for a valid bowled out shortly after Pandya mistimed his hit and one of the bails fell off.

The third umpire was confident that Mitchell bowled Pandya and that Latham did not disrupt the bails after looking through the umpire’s referral for the bowled dismissal. The third umpire believed he had gathered enough evidence after seeing many replays to declare Pandya out in the 40th over. Pandya was not the only person who was surprised by the choice, though, as his firing prompted a heated discussion on social media.
