IND vs NZ: India beat New Zealand by 90 runs to register their second-consecutive clean sweep in ODI cricket this year. Chasing a huge target of 386 runs, New Zealand batters failed to perform in the Powerplay over and when the field restrictions were over, opener Devon Conway held the crease from one end and went on scoring 132 runs. But Conway got no support from the other side. Henry Nicholls added 78 runs with Conway for the second wicket. Nicholls also got out after scoring just 42 runs.
Shardul’s perfect spell
Shardul Thakur was the pick of the Indian bowlers in the game with his figures of 3/45. At one stage, Conway took the Kiwis closer to the target and it looked like Blackcaps could get to the target if the partnership was built. But Umran Malik got rid of Conway on the day that was not good for him with the ball.
Impressive openers
Earlier, after being asked to bat, India put in a mammoth total of 385 runs with skipper Rohit Sharma and his opening mate Shubman Gill scoring centuries. The duo added 212 runs for the first wicket which was their highest in the format. Rohit smashed six sixes and nine fours in his knock quickfire century knock.
Later Hardik Pandya scored 54 runs in 38 balls to give the team a good finish with the bat.
India will now face New Zealand in the three-match T20I series on January 27 at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi.
