IND vs NZ: In the opening One-Day International of the three-match series today, India and New Zealand are currently playing in Hyderabad. India chose to bat first after winning the toss. The squad got off to a strong start thanks to the opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who combined for 60 runs for the first wicket. Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ishan Kishan all fell to fast succession wicket losses for India.

Shubman Gill bows down in celebration

Shubman Gill, though, remained unmoved by the rapid series of dismissals and stood erect at the opposite end. The batsman and Suryakumar Yadav formed an important partnership for the fourth wicket. Gill took 52 deliveries to get his half-century as well.

The batsman then placed his feet on the paddle and scored the subsequent 50 runs in only 35 balls. Gill celebrated in style after scoring his third ODI century. Before the Hyderabad audience, the batter made a bow and acknowledged their applause. In the following over, Mitchell Santner was hit for a boundary by Gill, who kept up his assault.

In a stunning accomplishment, Gill became the player to score 1,000 runs for Team India in the 50-over format the fastest, doing it in just 19 ODI games, five less than Kohli. The talented Indian opener has only played 19 innings for the Men in Blue, but he already boasts three ODI centuries. Gill has three hundreds in less innings than only experienced Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. Gabbar had scored three centuries in 17 innings.
