IND vs NZ: In the third Twenty20 match against New Zealand on Wednesday, the young opener Shubman Gill displayed amazing power to get his first T20I century. He also became the sixth Indian player to achieve the three-figure mark, Gill completing his century in just 54 balls. He remained unbeaten in the match as he went on to score 126* off 63 balls.
In the game’s shortest format thus far, hundreds had already been struck by India captain Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda, and Virat Kohli.
Shubman Gill smashes maiden T20I ton
By smashing 10 fours and five sixes on his way to his amazing hundred, Gill added another fifty runs in just 17 deliveries after reaching his half-century in 35 deliveries. In the course of this innings he also broke Virat Kohli’s record of most runs in an T20I innings by an Indian. Virat Kohli held the record earlier when he smashed 122* against Aghanistan.
Gill had a memorable ODI series against New Zealand, starting with a double hundred in the first game and then adding an unbeaten 40 in the second. The 23-year-old would later put the New Zealand bowlers to the test once again when he struck 112 runs in Indore to tie the ODI record formerly held by Pakistan skipper Babar Azam.
