IND vs NZ: Team India made Prithvi Shaw sit in the stands as the captain Hardik Pandya named Shubman Gill as the second opener after wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. Shaw was included in the squad after being away from the national jersey for a very long. He had scored tons of runs in domestic cricket for multiple teams but even then he was ignored for the selection.
Shaw not playing before Gill has raised questions of the team management as the latter had failed totally in T20Is since his debut.
Gill’s ODI form over everything
However, Gill spot in the team could also be justified after his recent top-class performance in ODI cricket. Gill had scored four centuries in the last six months and ODI cricket out of which three came this month itself. He is India’s leading century scorer in 2023 and has almost guaranteed his spot as an opener ahead of 2023 World Cup which is scheduled to be held in India.
Shaw’s inspirational comeback
While for Prithvi Shaw it was a tough road before making it to the national team days, back. He was in the center of all headlines for last one-and-a-half years for not being featuring even in India’s 15-men squad for any tournaments or bilateral series.
