IND vs NZ: India all-rounder Washington Sundar has said Daryl Mitchell’s knock of not out 59 in 30 balls was the difference between both the teams in the first T20I where New Zealand defeated the home side at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi. Mitchell scored 27 runs off Arshdeep Singh’s over to take his team to a winning total. It was the matter of 21 runs between India and New Zealand at the game ended on Kiwis’ favour.
Poor bowling from Arshdeep
Before the start of New Zealand’s final over, they were at 149/6 but poor line and length from Arshdeep gave New Zealand advantage to go big.
“Obviously, Daryl’s innings was very crucial for them and as I said 150 would’ve been par and we would’ve been very happy with that going inside, but yes he made the difference by actually getting a half-century for himself. He played till the end and made the difference in the last over,” said Washington Sundar.
“I think these big overs will happen in T20 cricket and it just happened in a couple of occasions in this game and at times it could happen where you will see 15 runs and above in three-four overs. That’s how this format is,” he said in the post-match press conference.
Washington’s ‘Sundar’ innings vs New Zealand
Sundar was the lone batter in the Indian lineup who showed grit in front of New Zealand bowlers. The al-rounder scored 50 runs in 28 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes at the strike rate of over 178.
New Zealand now lead the three-match series 1-0 with the next one scheduled to be held in Lucknow on January 29 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
