IND vs PAK: Jay Shah, president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), recently announced the ACC Calendar 2022–23 on social media. Najam Sethi, who just took over as head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said Shah had “unilaterally” introduced the calendar in response to Sethi’s post.
Shah tweeted the men’s and women’s schedules, with a total of 145 matches planned for 2023–24. In response to Shah’s tweet, the PCB president demanded the BCCI secretary to also provide the format and schedule for this year’s Pakistan Super League.
Sethi criticises Jay Shah on Twitter
Taking to Twitter, Sethi tweeted “Thank you Jay Shah for unilaterally presenting ACC structure and calendars 2023-24 especially relating to Asia Cup 2023 for which Pakistan is the event host. While you are at it, you might as well present structure and calendar of our PSL 2023! A swift response will be appreciated.”
Shah had already stated earlier in the day that the 50-over Asia Cup will take place in September 2023, however it is yet unknown who will serve as the event’s host. Despite Pakistan having the right to host the Asia Cup, Shah said last year that the event will be transferred to a neutral location since India would not visit Pakistan.
Earlier, Jay Shah said “Presenting the ACC pathway structure and cricket calendars for 2023 and 2024! This signals our unparalleled efforts and passion to take this game to new heights. With cricketers across countries gearing up for spectacular performances, it promises to be a good time for cricket!”

ACC refutes Najam Sethi Claim
ACC has now said, I”t has come to our attention that PCB Chairman Mr. Najam Sethi has commented on the ACC President’s decision to announce the schedule after making it official and without consulting anybody else. To be clear, the ACC has adhered to accepted due procedure. At a meeting on December 13th, 2022, the calendar’s Development Committee and Finance & Marketing Committee approved it.”
As per ACC, all of the involved parties were then individually informed of the calendar through email on December 22, 2022, including Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Even though several Member Boards responded, PCB did not offer any suggestions for changes or remarks.
Asia Cup to be held in September
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, as well as a qualifying squad, will compete in the Asia Cup in 2023. In the UAE, Sri Lanka is the reigning Asia Cup winner after beating Pakistan in the championship match. The competition was held in the T20 format due to the ICC T20 World Cup that was held in Australia.
This year’s Asia Cup will be contested in the 50-over format because India will be hosting the ODI World Cup later this year and all contending teams will be concentrating on it. Between 2023 and 2024, a total of 145 ODI and T20I matches would be played. This was stated by the ACC. In 2023 there will be 75 games, while in 2024 there will be 70.
