However, it was Shreyas Iyer’s bat that has garnered even more attention since it got somewhat broken while facing one of Haris Rauf’s deliveries.
Shreyas Iyer’s bat broken
The match started as scheduled, with Rohit winning the toss and choosing to bat first. However, a brief 33-minute rain delay interrupted the game. After play resumed, India faced quick wickets, beginning with the dismissal of skipper Rohit Sharma for 11 runs. Shortly after, Virat Kohli was also sent back to the pavilion, scoring just 4 runs off 7 deliveries. Another rain interruption occurred, and during this break, Shreyas Iyer, who had been looking good, saw his bat break in the eighth over.
On the fourth delivery of the eighth over, Iyer’s bat broke into two as he played a shot through the covers off Haris Rauf, and a picture of the broken bat went viral. Iyer’s innings was cut short by Pakistan’s Haris Rauf as Fakhar Zaman took a sharp catch at mid-wicket on the fifth delivery of the tenth over, resulting in India losing their third wicket.
