IND VS SA ICC ODI World Cup 2023: He has finally done it. The story that started 14 years ago on the same ground as Kolkata has achieved a milestone that is unthinkable for most of the players.
Virat Kohli hit his first century in Eden Gardens back in 2009. And now he has scored his 49th ODI century in Eden Gardens in 2023. This journey has been a joy to watch and a motivation for everyone who has seen it.
A player who was not deemed fit to be an international player has become the icon of the game. And from being a misfit to the fittest player in the world, he has equaled the record of legend Sachin Tendulkar in record time.
IND VS SA ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Tough Batting Pitch
It was a tough pitch at Eden Gardens to bat and Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made it look like a road. Both of them gave the Indian team a brilliant start and after that, it was Shreyas Iyer and Kohli that kept the momentum going.
The batting became difficult after the powerplay as the ball started gripping. Keshav Maharaj bowled with an economy of 3 only in his 10 overs. Shamsi also bowled brilliantly but the two Indian batters let those overs pass.
Iyer departed after scoring 27 and Surya Kumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja put the finishing touches to the match as India scored 326/6 in their 50 overs. It will be a tough target for the Proteas considering the pitch.
The 49th Arrived
The birthday boy had to wait till the last to get his century. In the 49th over, he pushed Rabada for a single to complete his century. Even though it was his birthday, he gave a gift to every Indian cricket team fan.
