When he started the inning by hitting a boundary on the first delivery, everyone thought we would see the same Hitman that we have seen so far in this campaign. Moreover, the fact that this was his 250th ODI inning made everyone even more hopeful.
Sensational Delivery
The Indian skipper hit the first delivery for a boundary and set the tone for his innings. Dilshan Madhushanka knew that if he let him dictate the terms, he was going to pay dearly for it.
That is why a strong comeback was needed and what a comeback it was. It was a brilliant comeback and a peach of a delivery that broke down the defense of the Indian skipper completely.
It was an off-cutter on a good length and just around the middle and off, shaping away slightly. The Indian skipper played for shape-in and tried to block the ball but completely missed the line. The ball went through the gap and shattered the off-stump.
Rebuilding The Innings
Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill have been rebuilding the innings steadily yet aggressively so far. Both of them have reached their half-centuries and are looking to score big. After some early scares, both of them are settled now and will punish the Lankan bowlers.
It is the fault of Sri Lanka only that both of these batsmen are settled. Both Kohli and Gill have been dropped by the fielders at least once now in this IND VS SL ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match.
